"Any human with above room temperature IQ can design a utopia. The reason our current system isn’t a utopia is that it wasn’t designed by humans. Just as you can look at an arid terrain and determine what shape a river will one day take by assuming water will obey gravity, so you can look at a civilization and determine what shape its institutions will one day take by assuming people will obey incentives."

Though actually now that I think of it, is there any good way to pack rectangles into arbitrary shapes? especially ones that have holes in the middle? :/

Hey all! So I've been working on a project called Agora, and I was wondering what I would need to implement to make the project something that each of you, personally, would want to use? Is it just that nobody else is using it? Does the interface not work for you? Is there some critical missing feature? Tell me! You can see the project in action here: agora-2866.nodechef.com/forum

Ironically, my greatest fear isn't that A.I. will go rogue, it's that it won't. XD

For those who are interested, I have an open source project I'd love to have help with. I can probably even pay you, though I don;t have loads of money, so. XD

Hey anybody have any opinions on the registry programming pattern? Like, say I have a bunch of data I want to keep track of and use all over, like terrain types. Is putting it in a globally visible container and accessing that container all over a bad idea? :/

tfw you eat a whole package of macaroni & cheese with extra cheese, and then start questioning your life choices... :/

So I messaged SJGames about using GURPS again. Not sure whether or not they'll say yes though. In the mean time, does anybody have any suggestions about other systems I might use? preferably something with a similar degree of simulation, but with more flexibility in exactly what you simulate and to what degree of detail? And it'd be especially nice if it's open source. XD

Conservative politics are an easy sell in rural areas. But the problem is: they just *CANNOT* deliver.

To stop the decline of the rural America, a level of government intervention would be required that is 100% incompatible with the conservative core ideology.

please just...be kind to eachother.

Share warmth and glow, in dark times like these.

Here, in spaces like this, the people around you care about you. Please don't forget that.

You deserve so much more than this world can give you.

And I hope,
as always,
that you dream of wonders.

People who are saying "Mastodon is dead" are asking the wrong question

That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die
