Today I learned my mom's friends are very toxic influences. Certainly explains her insistence on homeopathy and utter reluctance to letting me research where to catch up with my vaccines before I leave.
Soon as the lights come back I should start going into overdrive, art-wise. All this time here and the only pic I ever posted was a practice doodle.
Starting to see people I never expected to use this platform. I don't know what happened to motivate 'em to give it a shot (power's still down after almost two months, and you can't get more living-under-a-rock than that), but I'm just glad I can keep up with my webcomics from here now.
Looks like the street behind where I live has electricity. Shouldn't be long before they start work on this one (hopefully).
I can't wait until I can use an actual keyboard again (assuming the rig survived the hurricane—barely got it out of the office area when the ceiling got damaged).
...Good lord, it took too long to get back online. Frickin' hurricanes.
Power is still out for over 50% of Puerto Rico a month and a half after hurricane Maria, and that percentage includes me. Seriously, as soon as the lights come back and I can work again I'm saving money to leave this place.
Hurricane's due to hit the island later today as a Category 5. Unknown how long we'll be without electricity.
I'm gonna miss having internet.
Two hurricanes in one month. One of which is likely to be a direct hit this Wednesday.
This is why I want to leave Puerto Rico as soon as possible.
...I bought materials so I could learn how to shade with ink washes while the post-Irma blackout happened. I should've known better than that (so godddamn muggy it was hard to function).
Really glad that the electricity came back after just two days.
Welp. Hurricane Irma's coming. Got a warning and everything.
Wonder how long the blackouts will last this time.
...Yeah, I think this'll work. Public for the occasional pic, unlisted for everything else. Should keep the clutter down.
First public toot. Just a practice mermaid to unrust with the pens. (cw: nudity)
...If I was any smarter, I'd probably forgo learning Python for the sake of creating a static site generator that suits my needs (since none of the ones I found work for me) and just make a simple landing site, use some HTML templates to create a gallery of sorts for my stuff and use Pelican to handle all the blog stuff. Then maybe I could start posting pics here by Inktober.
I am nothing if not skillful at procrastination.
…Eesh. Not a good set of weeks to draw, apparently. Brain is incapable of focusing right now (and the nausea, headaches and family-related worries aren't helping, either).
It'd probably help if there was enough privacy during the day for me to do stuff, but grandma keeps forgetting to knock before entering. And she enters a lot.
Took all day to get out of this funk. Still can't tell sometimes if it's depression or part of the whole ADD package. Should get a proper diagnosis sometime after I'm back on meds.
Bought a portable drafting table, which should be here by Tuesday. That's one of two things I needed to get to resume traditional art (the other being a tabloid-size scanner, but this one had higher priority). Only then am I gonna start posting pics here 'cause I am NOT using my Cintiq for first impressions (even with that overpriced piece of hardware I still suck at sketching digitally).
Got my first novel since going homeless: American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. A good first step towards rebuilding the old collection, methinks.
...Which means I'm gonna delay the plans I had for today. It's been too long since I last read a new novel.
Slowly getting back my focus. Should take advantage of it after sleep, either by drawing or programming.
The latter would be best—I still need to finish learning proper Python so I can build what I need instead of just simple toys—but some art practice wouldn't hurt, either.
Lights go out in the middle of the night. The sounds of strong winds and endless rain replace the reassuring whirr of the air conditioner. Distant rumbles tease the possibility of nearby lightning.
In other words, it's officially hurricane season in this gods-forsaken husk of an island known as Puerto Rico. Nothing but storms galore until November.
Fuck.
I also need to learn enough Python to build a static site generator so I can make a gallery/blog on Neocities. I know *some* but not enough for that, and none of the other scripts I've found have what I need.
That'll have to wait a while, though. Need to register with reforma so I can get my ADD meds first.
Still thinking of ways that I can jerryrig a drafting table. I miss the old thing but the current living area is too small/restrictive for a new one.
Gonna need something sturdy enough to put some weight into yet big enough to handle 11x17 inch paper vertically. Plus either a way of raising the angle or something that's permanently-set at the angle I'd like. And it all has to fit onto a folding table.
I feel like this'd be easier if I could work with wood, but alas—they don't teach that here.
