I feel like I've sweated enough today to make an entire other me. And the hellish part of summer is only just beginning.

I have to pee, but my is actually happy to be curled up on my lap for the first time in a long time.

I’m so glad for all the people who speak out on social media. It helps me as a teacher to know what to look for and how to be inclusive and understanding of students on the spectrum.

Like knowing non-verbal kids aren’t being contrary means I can assist them rather than scold them.

It isn’t easy to research on my own given the vast amount of misinformation out there. So hearing real people’s experiences, needs, and criticisms is invaluable for my students’ wellbeing.

All I know of is two basic words and what the circle means in writing. But that, and a bit of pattern recognition, was enough to "read" those two words and accidentally fool someone into thinking I speak Korean. Oops.

After we handed back midterms, a student asked me why one of her answers was wrong. She didn't understanding how passives work with prepositions.

To help her beyond a one-time explanation, I quickly wrote up a sheet with some example sentence patterns and their translations.

When I gave her the sheet, she reacted like I'd performed magic in front of her.

I hope someday she realizes SHE can be too.

For tonight’s random-derangement-o’clock derangement, my has chosen to engage her play-, groom-, fight- and cuddle-mode simultaneously. As one might imagine, this makes for a painful and unsatisfactory experience for all involved. But trying to opt out results in non-stop vocal protests. *sigh*

At first glance, I thought this was a “NO CENTAURS” sign:

I don't know if my will ever forgive me. She had to go to the vet for an ear infection today, and now I'll have to medicate her ears twice daily for a week.

I really need to make a sign for the electronic lock on my door that tells people how to get out. A few days ago I briefly trapped some delivery guys by accident because the control panel is very not intuitive and is . And by "Korean," I mean all the writing on it is all *in Korean*. So none of the people I know, whether or fellow foreigner, can read the damn thing.

The dispatch company I work for discourages us teachers from using our cell phones at work. The schools we work at encourage their students to write about their interests in English class. Then they give us the writings to correct because we're native speakers.

But there's often no way to figure out what our students are writing about without some way to look up all of their random special interests. So it's either ignore the company's policy or do a crap job of teaching English.

My , , spent yesterday afternoon having an anxiety attack about the windows being open. In the evening, she wandered around the apartment for hours making "mrip mrip" sounds. Then she got mad at me for picking her up.

She spent most of today still mad at me and would hiss if I tried to touch her. Now she's curled up on my stomach, for the first time ever, totally relaxed.

It was an entire random-derangement weekend.

Once again, it's random-derangement-o'clock in time.

Today's derangement: Roll around on the floor asking for pets. Get very upset if pet anywhere other than one's back even though one's back is currently inaccessible due to the rolling.

Can't give up Birdsite quite yet. Just found all the angry on it. 😍

I love it when the teachers realize the quirky things I do in class are actually linguistically significant and ask the kids (who often only notice the quirkiness) to try to figure out WHY I'm doing those things. For example, raising and lowering my hand to indicate syllable stress (which can be very hard for Japanese people to pick up on naturally) during vocab practice.

So , my formerly-stray , has finally realized I will pet her any time she wants. Up till now she's sort of been a skeptic of the idea of affection for the sake of affection.

Even if I'm rarely myself, it's nice to have a kitchen that is. I was able to make happened out of random junk in the fridge and cupboards instead of going back out in the rain after an exhausting day at work.

Still need to figure out a good way to grill eggplant in the fish-grilling drawer, though. The first two attempts have been, well...less than successful.
